What to know before your first edit
Two things define Fujifilm RAW editing. First, Film Simulations live in metadata: the Velvia or Classic Chrome you shot with is recorded in the RAF as a note, and the only faithful renderings come from the camera itself — including Fujifilm's X RAW Studio, which routes the file back through a connected camera's own processor. Every third-party editor starts from neutral sensor data; some offer profiles that approximate the simulations, and RevelRaw's film-inspired presets are its own looks, not clones. Second, X-Trans is a genuinely different demosaic problem: Fujifilm's color filter array isn't the standard Bayer pattern, editors solve it with different algorithms, and fine detail like foliage can render visibly differently between apps.
