Modern bodies write ARW in several RAW file types — Compressed, Lossless Compressed (L, plus reduced-size M and S on many bodies) and Uncompressed, with Compressed (HQ) replacing Uncompressed on the a7 V and a7R VI — and which ones exist depends on the generation. What to know before your first edit
The thing that surprises every new Alpha owner: Creative Looks are metadata. The FL or IN look you picked on the camera is stored in the ARW as a note, not baked into the pixels, so most editors start from the neutral sensor data.
